Documenting today's society in the Netherlands- a new approach to appraisal

Mr. Ruud Yap gave a gripping presentation on the new approach to appraisal taken by the Dutch National Archives. Due to the large volumes of records generated by digital systems, the existing appraisal system “PIVOT,” based on an analysis of governmental functions and actions, can no longer be sustained.

Meeting of the Section for Archivists of International Organizations
July 30, 2008

The Section for Archivists of Internal Organizations of the ICA held its 34th meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Friday July 25th. Many reports were made on the administration, finance and activity programme of the section, and the members were treated to several presentations from outside the Section, including Mr. Ian Wilson (incoming President of the ICA) and Ineke Deserno (ICA Programme Committee.) Both Mr. Wilson and Ms. Deserno invited the SIO to think creatively about the upcoming activity programme so as to situate its work within the strategic direction of the ICA at large.

ICA and the UNESCO Memory of the World Program

A three-part session on Thursday, July 24 including talks by Miriam Nisbet, Ray Edmondson and Wladyslaw Stepniak focused on UNESCO’s Memory of the World program (MoW) and was moderated by George MacKenzie. The MoW program is an unprecedented effort to identify, document, and preserve, and promote access to the documentary heritage of the entire globe.
