ASA is the professional body for archivists in Australia. The Flying Reporters spoke to Sigrid McCausland of ASA about their presence at the ICA Congress and the 2012 Congress in Brisbane.

What do you hope to accomplish at this Congress with having a stand at the Trade Fair?
Sigrid McCausland smiled and showed us the recently released third edition of the book called Keeping Archives. She indicated that one of the main reasons for ASA to be presented at the fair was to promote and raise awareness of this manual for archives practioners. The book, first issued in 1987, is a meant to serve as a text book for archivists and is a detailed description of archival practices and theory. Ms. McCausland indicated that raising awareness of the activities of ASA within the broader archival community was another motivation for being present at the Trade Fair. She mentioned that the ASA already works together with archivists within Australia and New Zealand and she hoped that the ASA presence at ICA would lead to further co-operation with other professional associations in the arena of archives and records management.

Will ASA be involved in the ICA 2012 Congress preparation?
Sigrid McCausland indicated that ASA would work closely with PARBICA and the organizers from the Australian national archives in preparing for the ICA Congress in 2012 in Brisbane. She also mentioned that in 2009 the ASA will organize its annual conference in Brisbane together with ICA PARBICA.

Are some of the ICA Kuala Lumpur Congress participants coming to your annual conference in Perth in August?
Sigrid McCausland confirmed that there were some participants of this Congress travelling on to Perth for the ASA annual conference. She said that the ASA was very pleased that some of the speakers of the ICA Kuala Lumpur Congress are also going to speak in Perth.
