Abstract:
In this session, Dr. Laura Millar introduces a new series of educational materials being developed by the International Records Management Trust with the financial support of the UK Department for International Development. These modules address critical issues in electronic records management and offer practical suggestions, concrete examples, and clear guidance for records and archives practitioners, particularly in developing countries.
Target audience:
Records and archives practitioners and educators from any country. The workshop offers an overview of the educational material and its use. An expanded version of this presentation will be offered to the Association of Commonwealth Archivists and Records Managers (ACARM) on 21 July 2008.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
Electronic records management is a serious challenge to all records professionals, most particularly to archivists and records managers in developing countries, where much-needed financial, technological, and infrastructure resources can be scarce. In the session, Dr. Millar introduces a new package of educational materials and seeks suggestions and inputs from the audience to help shape the completion of the materials, which will be publicly available for download on the IRMT website once finished.
Content description:
In this session, Dr. Laura Millar – a Canadian archival and information management consultant and the managing editor of this international educational initiative – will introduce a new series of educational tools for electronic records management. The tools, which are being developed by the International Records Management Trust with the financial support of the UK Department for International Development, are primarily intended for use by records and archives professionals in developing countries. Dr. Millar will provide an overview of the project and an introduction to the training materials, and she will show samples of the materials and discuss various options for dissemination and use. The session will then be opened for questions, discussion and feedback from the audience, in order to raise awareness about the project and to provide the IRMT with professional input into the materials prior to their completion.
