Abstract:
The Round Table will bring together a panel of international speakers, including educators, doctoral students and practitioners, who together will consider aspects of theory and research and their role in practice and in education. It will provide a forum for the exchange of information about existing research projects and of ideas about future research developments. Panel of speakers to include: Laura Millar (Canada, consultant, educator); Peter Sebina (Botswana, academic, recent doctoral student); Ricky Punzalan (Phillipines/USA, academic, current doctoral student); Sharon Alexander-Gooding (West Indies, practitioner, teacher of Certificate summer school); Karen Anderson (Australia/Sweden, academic); Elizabeth Shepherd (UK, academic); Andrew Flinn (UK, academic and historian); Anne Gilliland (USA, academic); Anna Szlejcher (Argentina, academic). Session organised by ICA/SAE
Target audience:
Archive and records management practitioners interested in the role of research in professional practice; archival educators; academics and researchers in the discipline of archives and records management; those interested in professional training; doctoral students.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
This session will build on the Work in Progress Practice and Research and widen the debate. In particular, the Round Table will provide a forum for the exchange of information about existing research projects and of ideas about future research developments. The panel, uniquely, will, bring together educators, doctoral students and practitioners from around the world to consider questions surrounding theory and research in our discipline.
Content description:
The Round Table will bring together a panel of international speakers who together will consider aspects of theory and research and their role in practice and in education. In addition, it will consider these themes: research methods; practitioner research; national research agendas; education for research; sharing of information about research activity internationally, both practice-based and academic; the research-practice gap; epistemology of archival research; research networks; role of research in archives and records management education; ethnographic research for archives; research to enable the discipline to meet digital challenges.
