Abstract:
The institutions represented by the session presenters are currently working to develop a coherent policy at the national level to meet the needs of a specific user group: genealogists. Based on studies of different types of genealogists, several priority actions were defined, including the need to recognize genealogy as a cultural practice, to support both private and public initiatives, to develop federating tools at the national level, and to exploit information technologies.
Target audience:
Public policy creators, directors of archival institutions, database designers
Overall purpose and significance of session:
To define a global public policy, to improve knowledge of users, and to adapt the programs and services of archives to these users; to support the development of programs that favour genealogists, and to develop tools for cooperation on a national and international level.
