Abstract:
Distinguished scholar and expert of Japanese conservation, Prof. Masuda, will give a lecture on the history of conservation technique in Japan. After the lecture, participants will experience the hands on practice of the traditional conservation technique of Japanese binding and others. Professional conservators of the National Archives of Japan will demonstrate the technique. Text and materials will be provided on site.
Target audience:
Anyone who are engaged in conservation work in archival institutions will be welcome.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
After the lecture by the conservation expert, this workshop provides participants with the opportunity to experience internationally-respected Japanese paper conservation technique.
Content description:
Prof. Katsuhiko Masuda, the leading authority of conservation, will make a speech on the theory and history of restauration techniques. After the speech, participants will have hands-on experience with professional conservators of National Archives of Japan.
