Abstract:
Participants explore strategies for implementing ICA-ISAD(G) through analysis of generated in both manual and automated environments finding aids. This workshop, a basic introduction to the standard, focuses on application of ICA-ISAD(G) rules and concepts.
Target audience:
Any archivist whose responsibilities includes arranging and describing records, or supervising staff who does that work (attendance limited to 30)
Overall purpose and significance of session:
To put the various descriptive traditions and practices in relation to ICA-ISAD(G) and to understand the principles which govern the preparation of finding aids
o to provide access to archival material by communicating information about them to users;
o to produce accurate, consistent and self explanatory finding aids;
o to represent the context and content of the archival material being described by applying the rules of multilevel description.
Content description:
The workshop will be very interactive. The participants work within small groups on their own finding aids or on other examples. The workshop will include questions and discussion.
