Abstract:
While there has been numerous initiatives undertaken to instill and inculcate good values, ethical conduct, integrity and efforts to combat corruption in all sectors of the Malaysian society, the launch of the National Integrity Plan is a defining moment in Malaysia’s development, as it attempts to address the whole issue of integrity in a holistic and comprehensive manner. An important focus in this direction lies in the promotion of ethics and integrity that must become the norm and culture of the society. With the culture of ethics and integrity in place, the well being of the citizens should be maintained, promoted and strengthened. National Integrity Plan (NIP) is a comprehensive plan that aims to bring about societal change, i.e. to enhance integrity in all sectors of the society. The NIP is launched in line with the fourth challenge of Vision 2020 which is to “establish a fully moral and ethical society, whose citizens are strong in religious and spiritual values and imbued with highest ethical standards.” The Plan details strategies, programmes and activities to be implemented by all sectors of the society. Parallel with the launching of NIP, the Government has also established the Malaysian Institute of Integrity as a vehicle for planning and implementing the National Integrity Plan, as well as coordinating and monitoring its implementation by all sectors.
