Abstract:
Educational action in archives contributes to the preservation and enrichment of cultural diversity. Whether educational workshops, intergenerational exchanges, or websites devoted to children, memory materials—which is, in effect, what archival materials are—allow educators to initiate an inter-cultural, inter-religious dialog with children. But different countries take in consideration cultural diversity differently, depending on historical, geographical and social context, and cultural and institutional traditions. Through accounts of French, Dutch and New Zealand experiments, those different realities can be compared: former colonizer countries and former colonies, immigration countries and emigration countries, unity or plurality of languages and religions, British and Dutch recognition of communities or French integration of minorities…
Target audience:
Educational policy makers, public policy makers, directors of archives and cultural mediators.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
This session will seek to define the role of the archival document in cultural diversity education. It will present original initiatives by archival services aimed at young people and students.
