Abstract:
The threat of theft affects archival institutions across the globe. In the context of the European Archives Group, and in light of the findings from the 2007 report Stealing from Archives, the European Union EBNA/EAG Expert Working Group was devised to examine this problem. The group of national archivists from the 27 member countries of the EU recently drafted a declaration and set of best practices on the issue which will be released during the French presidency in 2008. This round table session will serve to introduce the Principles and Practical Guidance for preventing archival theft and provide a forum for discussion.
Target audience:
Archivists and policy makers
Overall purpose and significance of session:
To present the findings of the EBNA/EAG Expert Working Group in the area of archival theft and to provide opportunity for international discussion on the issues raised.
