Abstract:
The Training the Trainer Resource Pack is a set of practical online guidelines to help recordkeeping professionals plan and deliver training for their local context. It includes advice on delivery options, learner profiles, organising facilities, teaching aids and evaluation. It was initially written in English and has been translated into Bahasa Melayu/ Indonesian, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Practical hands-on workshops about how to use the Training the Trainers Resource Pack will be presented in the 5 languages, so participants can discuss training issues in a language with which they are most familiar. The workshops aim to support practitioners who may not have formal education qualifications or access to educators, but still have training responsibilities, especially for introducing archives and records practices to a work area or community for the first time. The workshops are an opportunity to develop professional skills.
Target audience:
Recordkeeping professionals who have some training responsibilities in archives and records, and need to prepare training activities for their local context.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
The Training the Trainer Resource Pack is an endorsed ICA Project and is available in English, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesian through the ICA Section on Archival Education and Training. The Training Pack and accompanying workshops illustrate the innovative ways that recordkeeping professionals can develop their skills and knowledge, so fits within the core ‘Development’ theme of the Congress. The purpose of the workshops is to help participants develop their training skills and knowledge and show how they can apply the Training Pack in their local context. Having interactive workshops in multiple languages will improve understanding to a wider audience, as they will be able to communicate in a language with which they are familiar.
Content description:
The Training the Trainer Resource Pack is a practical tool to help recordkeeping practitioners prepare training activities for their local context. The Training Pack is available in English, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesian and is on the website of ICA Section on Archival Education and Training. The workshops will be delivered in the languages into which the Training Pack has been translated. The workshops will cover a range of topics: the purpose and structure of the Training Pack; lesson plans; learner profiles, adapting training activities to local practices; different delivery options; teaching aids, training in a cross cultural context; and using templates such as program schedules and evaluation forms. The workshops will use presentations, interactive activities, discussions and handouts to help practitioners develop their training skills and knowledge and how to make use of available resources when training people in their local context about archives and records procedures and practices.
