Abstract:
In 2004 ten new countries joined European Union, eight of which are from eastern and central Europe. In 2007 two then extended this group. All institutions and organisations had to adapt to a new reality, archives were among them. Was this change positive for scientific and university archives or not? Is archival work easier now? Have we really new possibilities or rather new problems since our countries became EU members? And how are we seen by other European archivists? To have different points of view two questionnaires are prepared - one for archives new in EU, the second - for other European archives. After presentation of the results of the questionnaires, speakers will discuss them, trying to accent positive aspects and find solutions for negative ones, if they appear.
Target audience:
Archivists - not only university or scientific - interested in developing international contacts and cooperation among different institutons.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
To present possibilities of international archival cooperation. Using EU example it may invite archivists from different countries to affiliate with others facing similar problems.
