Abstract:

In 2001 the new records management standard ISO 15489 was published. Since then other work has been taken up by this ISO committee which includes metadata for records, work process analysis, long term requirements, and a review of ISO 15489. One of the main goals is also to position RM and archives standards as key management standards, similar to, for instance, the ISO 9000 (quality assurance) series.

Target audience:
archivists and records managers
Overall purpose and significance of session:
to provide an overview of the latest developments in the area of standardisation within ISO TC46/SC11.
Content description:
In this session three presentations will be given on current developments within ISO TC46/SC11. The first presentation will provide an overview of the key objectives and work items. One of these is to re-structure records and archives standards into a coherent set of management system standards. The advantage of this will be a much stronger and visible position in the field of ISO standards. The other two presentations will discuss new standards in the area of metadata (ISO 23081) and work process analysis (ISO 26122). Both will have a significant impact on archives.
